Professor Karen Nightingale is the National Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
As one of the largest Schools within the University she has oversight of approximately 10000 undergraduate and postgraduate students across three disciplines and 6 campuses. Karen is therefore well placed to be abreast of a range of academic and other issues affecting both students and staff.
Karen has experience in teaching international and local students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has supervised research students in master&rsquos degrees. Karen&rsquos specialist expertise is in Nursing Education, Curriculum Development, Student Nurses Clinical Placements and Student Teaching and Learning. Her clinical background encompasses both mental health and general nursing in both the acute care and community sector.
Karen commenced at ACU in February 2010 as the Deputy Head of School - School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine. She came to ACU with over 20 years&rsquo experience in higher education having worked in four other large Victorian universities in senior leadership roles including Director of Teaching & Learning and Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs. She therefore brings a wealth and breadth of knowledge and experience in tertiary education to ACU, including university policies, procedures and processes.
Karen is the chair of or a member of a range of School, Faculty and University committees and is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing.
