Research

My research interests are in the field of clinical psychology with a particular focus on psychological processes and psychological interventions for serious mental health problems in youth. Examples of research projects I have led include a randomized controlled trial for the prevention of relapse following first-episode psychosis and a treatment trial for early psychosis concurrent with borderline personality disorder. Together with colleagues from Orygen Research Centre and the University of Melbourne, I have developed novel web-based interventions for recovery from serious mental health problems for both young people and carers.

I am a named investigator on  NHMRC grants totalling more than AUD$10 million since 2005 and more than AUD$7 million in other funding since 2003.

Experience

I am a Clinical Psychologist with more than 25 years experience in the assessment and treatment of serious mental health problems. Most of my clinical experience has been in the field of youth mental health with a focus on first-episode psychosis. In this capacity I have developed interventions for young people and their families recovering from psychosis. In addition, I have developed programs for the prevention of violent reoffending for adult consumers receiving services from community based mental health services.

My teaching experience includes 5 years at The University of Melbourne where I taught in the clinical psychology postgraduate program prior to commencing at ACU in 2011. At ACU I contribute to teaching in the assessment and treatment of psychopathology.
