Biographical Information

BBus (Hons), MM (Entrepreneurship) GCHE

Ellen McBarron lectures in management and HR and is based on the Brisbane campus of ACU. . Her background includes 30 years in the finance industry where she left as the national training manager in 1999 to move to academia. She has taught at both undergraduate and post graduate in Burma, Thailand, Hong Kong, Beijing and Rome Italy. Ellen is an experienced manager and leader actively researching in organisation management of expatriates and their experience with international HRM, performance management, social entrepreneurship and refugee employability. She is actively involved in social justice issues within the university community. Ellen has regular consultancy work within Queensland Government and the mining Industry.  With teaching partner Dr Bob Compton (MacKillop) Ellen McBarron won a Carrick Award for developing a replicable and sustainable model that delivers empowering tertiary education to camp-based refugees

Grant: (2003) Successful recipient of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences grant, as part of a team, for preparing industry linkage project application

(2008) $10,000 Successful recipient Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

(2010) $5000 Faculty research  grant resulting in two publications

Supervision of Research Students:

I have co-supervised three Honours students in 2003 - 2004:2010

  • 2003 - 2004 Rebecca Weaver wrote a thesis on the integration of information systems and human resource information systems. This integration had not been developed in the business world and is a constant request from HRM practitioners. This thesis, titled “Integrated Human Resource Information Systems” was granted an A2 result.
     
  • 2004 submission Jayne Williams wrote s thesis on “Mentoring – A two way System”. Jayne looked at the wealth of information and decision making enhancements that comes from being the mentor. She designed a model of a perfect two-way mentoring system and applied this to live programs in three organisations. This thesis was granted an A2 result.
     
  • 2010 - Jessica Busby “A case study analysis of the use of Performance Management techniques & their support of Employee Engagement in the workplace”. Achieved Second Class Division A November 2010.
     
  • 2010 - Examiner for Tatjana Petricevic honour’s thesis titled “Influence of Corporate Social Responsibility on Consumer Price Sensitivity”
