Dr Walayat Hussain is currently the Head of the Discipline of Information Technology at Peter Faber Business School, Australian Catholic University, Australia. He has an academic and industry experience of more than 18 years. Before joining the ACU, he was a Lecturer at Victoria University Melbourne, Lecturer and a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney for seven years. He worked as an Assistant Professor and postgraduate program coordinator at the department of Computer Science at BUITEMS University for many years. He holds a PhD, Master, Postgraduate Diploma, and Bachelor's (Hons.) degrees in Computing and Information Systems from the UTS, AIT, BUITEMS, and Hamdard University.
Walayat has developed and revitalised multiple postgraduate and undergraduate subjects of Information Systems and has taught more than 30 subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has supervised several research students as the principal and co-supervisor to completion. Walayat's research areas are Service Computing, Business Intelligence, AI, Information Systems, Computational Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Decision Support Systems. He has contributed to theory and application and developed a new approach for making an optimal informed decision in complex systems. He has published more than 90 high-quality research documents. He has served as the General Chair and led the EAI-IoTaaS 2021 7th EAI International Conference on IoT as a Service (13-14 December 2021) in Sydney, Australia (https://iotaas.eai-conferences.org/2021/). He served as the General Co-chair in the 3rd International Conference on MMCITARE (4-6 March 2022) India, Sydney, General Co-chair in 3rd BiGIoT-EDU (29- 31 August 2023) China, and as Technical Program Committee Chair at 2nd BIG-IoT-EDU (29 -31 July 2022) China. He has been a track chair in 14th IEEE ICEBE -China and a PC member in NBiS 2016 Czech Republic. Currently, he serves as a member of the Peter Faber Business School Executive Committee and a member of the Faculty Learning and Teaching Academy. He also served on the VUBS HDR Committee at Victoria University and as a member of the board of Faculty and Studies at BUITEMS University for three years.
Walayat received multiple research grants of more than $120K as the Chief Investigator and co-investigator from various national and international bodies. He has won multiple national and international research awards and recognitions. He is the recipient of the prestigious National Research Award by the Government of Oman 2021, the VUBS Award for Excellence in Research 2022, the Best Paper Award at IoTaaS Australia 2021, the Best Paper Awards at 3PGCIC 2015, 2016 Poland, South Korea, and FEIT HDR Publication Award by the UTS Australia, 2016.
